Minute Masterclass Episode 236

Welcome to your one-minute masterclass. I’m Andrea Trench. If you enjoy our minute masterclasses, consider continuing your professional development as a student in our Foundations Course for Early Childhood Dance Educators and as a member of our DiscoverDance Experience online community. You can learn more about both of these opportunities at DiscoverDance.com.

This week’s DiscoverDance term is the VAKT Learning Styles Model. When we approach learning through the visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile senses, we offer an enriched learning experience. We all learn different objectives through different senses. That makes it important to reach all the senses as we teach new skills, objectives, choreography, and even as we deliver feedback and corrections. It’s impossible to know how each of our students will absorb everything we teach them, so we have to be extremely intentional when it comes to teaching our classes. Here at DiscoverDance, we created a teaching model called See, Say, Do, Play. This is a simple strategy to keep us in check to ensure we are indeed reaching multiple learning styles. You can learn more about exactly how we do this and how VAKT is connected to last week’s term, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, inside module 1, lesson 4 of the Foundations Course for Early Childhood Dance Educators.
