Minute Masterclass Episode 238

Welcome to your one-minute masterclass. I’m Andrea Trench. If you enjoy our minute masterclasses, consider continuing your professional development as a student in our Foundations Course for Early Childhood Dance Educators and as a member of our DiscoverDance Experience online community. You can learn more about both of these opportunities at DiscoverDance.com.

This week’s DiscoverDance term is the BrainDance.  The BrainDance was developed in 2000 by Anne Green Gilbert and is based upon Laban/Bartinief’s Patterns of Total Body Connectivity. This warm-up framework explores the 8 developmental patterns that help organize our central nervous system from the moment we are born. Research has found that moving through these patterns at any age can help re-organize our brain and strengthen connectivity. This movement pattern is extremely versatile. You can perform it at any age, stage of development, standing, seated, in a chair, laying on the floor, with any style of dance, to music, poems, nursery rhymes, live singing, and so on. The variations are limitless.

We incorporate the BrainDance in all our preschool and above DiscoverDance classes. You can listen to Minute Masterclass episodes 125-140 to learn more. If you’d like to learn how to create your own BrainDances, join us inside the Foundations Course for Early Childhood Dance Educators.
